The Brazilian Championship was paralyzed due to the heavy rains that are devastating Rio Grande do Sul. The measure was taken after the Gaucho Football Federation (FGF) requested the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) to stop the Brasileirão due to logistics that make it impossible to move and execute the official field commands in the state.

According to Ednaldo Rodrigues, president of the CBF, the idea is that the stoppage does not exceed the calendar planned for national football in 2024, since the leader is already thinking about the obligations of the following year. This is because, in 2025, the launch of the new Club World Cup model will take place, which has three Brazilian participants (Fluminense, Flamengo and Palmeiras).
