Why does Bob Marley have a photo with the Santos shirt?
The King of Reggae visited Brazil only once and took with him a little love for football
This Thursday (06) the world celebrates the 75th birthday of the King of Reggae, Bob Marley. In addition to being a musician, composer and guitarist, the Jamaican was a football fan. And, more specifically, a fan of Pelé's Santos, a love that was revealed on a trip to Brazil.
In 1980, Bob Marley, Junior Marvin (guitarist of the Wailers), Jacob Miller (lead singer of Inner Circle), Chris Blackwell (director of Island Records) and his wife Nathalie Blackwell, came to Brazil. The trip was made to attend the inauguration party of the German label Ariola in the country, which held the rights to Island. Together, they arrived in Rio de Janeiro on March 18 and went straight to the famous Copacabana Palace.
HOW DID BOB MARLEY GET A SANTOS SHIRT?
The next morning (March 19), it was time to get to know Rio de Janeiro, try food (more specifically juices) and go shopping. Bob Marley and company then visited a sports equipment store, as they would participate in a game at the Chico Buarque field later. The game, by the way, would also have the presence of Alceu Valença, Toquinho, among other Island signings.
About three hours late, Bob Marley, Junior and Jacob arrived at the game venue and were placed in the team of Paulo César Caju, Toquinho, Chico Buarque. The other team, then, was with Alceu Valença, Chicão (from Jorge Ben's band) and four other employees of the label. After that, Bob won a Santos shirt and smiled while saying "Pelé". Despite stating that he would play in any position, the singer played a role in the attack and scored a goal. The final score was 3-0 (Chico and Paulo César also scored).

Later, still on the 19th, the participants of the game participated in a party, where Bob Marley was very comfortable. In a conversation with Paulo Cézar Caju, present at the 70 World Cup, Bob revealed that he was a fan of Caju and said that "Jamaica likes football because of Brazil" and that the Seleção was his team.
